How might we provide an effective and engaging method of sex education?

Social stigmas and taboo around human sexuality inhibit individuals from experiencing a healthy sexual development, as young adults are often uneducated or misinformed, enabling high-risk sexual behaviors detrimental to their health. Over a duration of 10 weeks me and my 2 teammates worked to address the rising necessity teenagers and young adults express for a proper Sex Education.

Process

Secondary Research

To start our secondary research we defined our user and looked into competitive research.

Through our competitive research we found current solutions often overwhelmed users with poor information architecture, inability to meet claims of helping in an emergency, and inability to relate to the user.

Interviews & Survey

We conducted an interview sprint through in person and virtual calls to gather insights from the perspective of the users. We also conducted a survey which received 60+ responses from around the world. We discussed the pros and cons from their sex education and sought to understand how they tackled issues related to the subject.

From our three concepts we decided to do some concept testing using sticky notes and story telling. This exercise helped us in finalizing our design solution.

Solution

A fun and engaging style of sex education through game play. With scenario based gamification we emphasize and instill a sense of empathy between the user and non playable characters to deliver education on the different aspects of sexuality. Thats biological, erotic, physical, emotional, social, or spiritual feelings and behavioral. A persistent online community presence in the game world exists as additional guidance and support which may also inspire the creation of future non playable characters based on real scenarios encouraging users to return to already completed courses.

The gameplay emphasizes and instills a sense of empathy between the user, their playable character and others found in it.

Daily Goals ,Tasks and Virtual Currency systems promote constant playthroughs and engagement.
